Dr. Carey E Pointer Jr.

Carey E. Pointer, Jr. was called to the ministry at the age of 18, thus preaching for the past 53 years.  Pastor Pointer grew up in Houston, Texas, moving to the Washington, D.C. area in 1979.  He received his undergraduate degree from Bishop College in 1974, with a major in religion and a minor in philosophy.  He received his Ph.D. in Urban Ministries from the Aspen Christian College and Seminary.  Pastor Pointer is currently Pastor and Founder of the Greater Fellowship Full Gospel Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.  Prior to pastoring Greater Fellowship, he pastored Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, Port Arthur, Texas and Mt. Joy Baptist Church, Washington, D.C.
After much prayer and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Pointer resigned from Mt. Joy on December 5, 1987 and organized the Greater Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church on December 13, 1987.  With 67 FAT (faithful, available, and teachable) members, Pastor Pointer was convinced that God was moving him to another place.  Since inception, his vision and the thrust of the ministry have been “Meeting the Needs of the Whole Man.”  Pastor Pointer has led Greater Fellowship in establishing a presence in the S.E. Washington area where the Church is widely known for its outreach services and concern for the “common man.”
Pastor Pointer is a very serious student of the Word of God and emphatically subscribes to 2nd Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”  As a result of his conviction, he insists that members of the Greater Fellowship Family also aspire to mature spiritually.  As a result, he has developed countless study series and curricula that he has shared in and outside of Greater Fellowship. Pastor Pointer has licensed 23 Sons and Daughters in Ministry.
Pastor Pointer taught church history at the Washington Baptist Seminary from 1982 to 1985 and has taught and preached at numerous churches and religious gatherings throughout the United States.  He has also served in various leadership positions in organizations such as The National Evangelism Movement, the National Baptist Convention, and the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship.   Pastor Pointer’s favorite scripture is Romans 5:8, “But God commended his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us
